What is Metaverse?
In simple words, Metaverse or Meta will be a virtual world where you can meet, work and play with your friends from home in the form of avatars using Oculus VR, Glasses, or future upcoming devices.
The term “Metaverse” is derived from the novel Snow Crash, written in 1992 by Neil Stephenson. The novel depicts a dystopian world where the main character of the novel named Hero Protagonist is a hacker/pizza delivery boy who travels behind its grim reality to the 3D virtual cityscape, Metaverse, which spans more than 40,000 miles.
The best example to understand Meta is work from home in which you attend your office from home via video call using laptop or mobile.
Similarly in Meta, you will attend your office, school, etc in the virtual world using VR, and Your Class fellows and colleagues can see you and you can also see them in the form of avatars that will be intangible. You will be able to change the appearance of your avatar in Meta.
Not only this, but you can do the shopping and also you can control your home appliances like a TV, fridge, etc through the Meta. This would not be possible in the early days but after a few years, we would be able to do this.
It’s hard to imagine at the moment but if you go back a few decades no one would have thought of video calling and the internet but today we are using it all very easily.

People already spend a lot of time on Facebook, so Facebook wants to make its users’ time as meaningful as possible in Metaverse, like if you want to go shopping, or you want to study with your friends so this all will be possible in the Meta. You don’t go anywhere you just need to do is wear your VR and do whatever you want in the Virtual world.
On the other hand, it is depressing to think that meeting each other in our physical life will be even less, which has already decreased due to the advent of mobile phones and it will also have a great impact on our physical fitness.

Why Did Facebook Change Its name?
On 28th October 2021, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is now Metaverse. You may have heard about Metaverse or Meta because there is a lot of talk about it these days.
It’s not easy for a well-known company to change its identity, even a company like Facebook, which is the third-largest site in the world and largest social media. So what is the reason that Facebook had to change its name?
The reason for renaming Facebook is Mark Zuckerberg’s vision that will take Facebook to the next level. On the other hand, many people are confused why Facebook is going to change its name, so it is important to understand that Facebook is a popular social media app as well as a company, so Mark Zuckerberg is not changing the name of social media app, he is going to change the company name from Facebook to Meta.
Before that, Facebook was a parent company, and Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR were Facebook’s child company but now the parent company will be Meta, and Facebook, Instagram WhatsApp, and Oculus VR will be the child company of Meta.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg does not want to limit Facebook to just social media, he now sees it in the eyes of Metaverse. So you can say that Metaverse will be the most advanced version of Facebook and also the latest type of internet.
The company said that the name Metaverse was chosen because it would help finalize the company’s vision. Many have criticized Mark Zuckerberg for changing his name, and some have said that changing his name would not affect his reputation.
